【京都】天ぷら八坂圓堂,高級天麩羅彰顯食材原味Tempura Endo Yasaka in Gion Kyoto, premium tempura to present the original flavor of ingredients

因為搭早班機(長榮BR 178,清晨六點半起飛),午餐時間已經在京都了!

Thanks to the early fight (BR178, taking off from Taipei at 6:30), the same day I was able to have lunch in Kyoto.

想吃好吃的天麩羅又不想跑到郊區,所以訂了位於祗園,八坂圓堂這家創業逾百年的老店。

I want to have good tempura in downtown Kyoto, so I booked a seat in Endo, which operated over a century.

檢查出酵母菌過敏後我都很乖不敢喝啤酒,這是Diamond Guarana,高級料亭常見的汽水(以前的我對汽水根本不屑一顧啊),喝起來像淡味蘋果西打。

Diamond Guarana, often seen in premium restaurants, tasted like light apple cider. I must have ordered beer if I didn’t know I was yeast allergy.

點了葵套餐,也是因為過敏的關係,請店家把炸蝦全換掉,所以我的菜色和一般有些不同。

I ordered an “Aoi” set. But have all fried shrimps replaced to other ingredients due to allergy.

前菜是湯葉,就著非常鮮的高湯凍。

當天食材一目瞭然,吃不夠的直接加點便是;蔬菜全是京野菜。

有一道我忘記拍,叫えんどう豆,敢冠用店名想必非等閒之輩,沒錯,它是甜豌豆的豆莢包著蠶豆泥,一口咬下以為是炸豌豆,沒想到裡面竟是蠶豆,非常有創意又好吃,如果你的套餐沒附請務必要加點。

I forgot to take a picture for the innovative and awesome “Endo beans”, fava bean puree covered by sweet pea pods. You would think you were eating sweet peas, and actually was fava bean inside. Please order one if it was not included in your set menu.

可能有人要問,連吃這麼多油炸物不會膩嗎?完全不會哦,你們可以看餐盤上墊的白紙,只有點狀極少的殘油,那從頭到尾都是同一張,師傅已經事先甩掉大部分的炸油了。也絕不會讓人感到「新鮮高級的食材油炸太可惜」,反而透過高溫更帶出食材的鮮美。

這是一家不諳日語也可以安心的餐廳,線上訂位有英文版(很難想像創業百餘年的店家這麼先進,讓我想到超神田壽司的擬寶珠夏春都),服務生和廚師可以英語溝通。

Don’t worry that you don’t speak Japanese. English version online booking is available on its official website, and staffs speak English.

路癡到達法:我從錦市場搭計程車過來八百多日圓。圓堂有三間店舖,運將問你到哪一間答不出來沒關係,請他隨便載你到一間,如果不對,門口的服務生會帶你走到正確的那間,彼此距離很近。

How to get there: take a taxi from Nishiki Market costs you eight hundred something yens. There are 3 Endo nearby, and ask the taxi driver to drop you off in front of any of them if you are not sure which one you booked. Then the staffs will guide you to the right place.

說到錦市場忍不住要抱怨,我覺得這裡很難逛,百分之百觀光客oriented,販賣的商品你很容易在日本別處找到類似的,加上我那天是週六,擁擠程度只比過年前的迪化街好一點。

BTW, probably different from most others; I didn’t have a good image in Nishiki Market. 100% tourist-oriented, you could find similar products elsewhere in Japan, and very crowded when I visited in Saturday.

有機會再訪京都的話,我還是想來圓堂吃一頓,錦市場…就免了。

Sure I will visit Endo again when I’m in Kyoto next time. But no more Nishiki Market.
